1-4 Gospel for the unbeliever
God’s relationship with the unbeliever
(how can unbel be +R before God)
5-11 Gospel for bel.s God’s relationship w/bel.
(how can bel. be +R, experientially)

Not by the Law

1:1-17 God presents the solution: vs 16
1:18-2:16 man’s rejection of God & of Jesus Christ.
2:17-3:8 Religious man is demonstrated from the Rel. Jew & all are guilty before God. Also remember that the issue is escaping the judgment of God 2:3 which is coming 1:18
3:1-8 Historical: connecting the giving of Abrahamic Covt to the Millennium
End of chpt. 2 –Jew has no adv. read 2:28-29
So 3:1 asked the question:
3:1 Then what advantage has /Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?

1. The Judaizers were saying that Paul did evil that good may come.
2. They slandered him, & reported—slander —some affirm that we say…evil will result in good
3. The end justifies /means.
4. But if the means is evil, the end will be evil also.
5. They in effect are saying that Grace was evil, which is completely untrue.

This is happening because Paul was teaching justification by faith alone & not by works.
True grace teaching is always attacked

19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law,
that every mouth may be closed, & all the world may become accountable to God;
20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight;
for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

Mosaic-Law
1. Justification is not based on M-L Gal. 2:16; Rom. 3:28;
2. The purpose of the M-L is to reveal to mankind that he is a sinner, & in need of +R & Justification.
3. Therefore the purpose of M-L is to curse mankind Gal. 3:10 & while we are here this curse is only removed in Jesus Christ Gal. 3:13
4. The Law produces a +R but it is a +R that has no credit with God. it is not the +R God is looking for. Phil. 3:9

5. The Jews throughout their history in OT failed because they tried to be saved by a +R produced by M-L. Rom. 9:30-33
6. The Law cannot provide Justification Acts 13:39.
7. Justification is by faith only: Rom. 3:28; 5:1;
8. The +R that God is looking for by faith only: Rom. 3:22; 4:5

Truths about God
1. God exist
Only the fool says God does not exist.
Psa. 14:1
2. God reveals Himself Rom. 3:21; Rom. 1:17; 1 John 4:9; Gen. 35:7; Psa. 77:14; Dan. 2:28; Eph. 3:10
3. God has a plan & God reveals that plan. Rom. 16:5-26

How is the +R of God revealed in the gospel?
1. To be saved we must have the +R of God.
2. We (mankind) are minus God’s +R, we do not have His +R.
3. There is nothing that we can do to become +R no amount of good works can change man from unR to +R.
4. Therefore we are helpless & hopeless before God.
5. So the gospel is the good news of how one freely obtains the +R of God by faith in Jesus Christ/ When a person (whosoever) believes in Christ he is imputed with God’s +R.

20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified the Law comes the knowledge of sin. in His sight; for through

21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
22 even /righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who
believe; for there is no distinction;
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
